Time

A poem in response to today’s daily prompt: Pace Oddity

Time,
It’s a tricky thing.
One moment,
Dragging by.
The next,
Slipping away.
It’s unpredictable,
Untameable, un-understandable.

When time starts to drag,
When you’re moving through honey.
You want nothing more,
You cave in and pray for,
Time to just move.
That little whispered prayer,
To no longer be there,
For time to tick faster.

Then there’s the moments,
When there’s not enough time.
Time just speeds by,
Never halting,
Never relenting.
You feel like your swept up in a whirlwind,
Unable to control anything,
Unable to stop.
You’d give anything then,
For just a little more time.

Time,
It’s a tricky thing.
One moment,
Dragging by.
The next,
Slipping away.
It’s unpredictable.
But it will never,
Never, do what you want.

One thought on “Time

  1. Good job in explaining time in our lives. I think repeating the first stanza at the last, with the last line change, was great.
Too many moments in my life now are the kind that speeds by, unlike when I was a child and thought Christmas would never come!
