Behind Another Door

Today’s prompt Doppelgänger Alert was about the identical. Specifically, an acquaintance’s house being identical to yours. Here is my response:

Are those my paintings,

Hanging on your wall?

Is that my fireplace,

Tucked against the wall?

Identical, exactly,

Something feels strange here.

Remarkable, astounding,

And yet the how’s not clear.

There above the fire,

That battered old timepiece.

There behind the table,

My hidden box of sweets.

Something here is different,

Something I can’t place.

It’s a little creepy,

Standing in your place.

It’s the same as mine,

Yet different.

Simply because it’s yours.

It’s the same as mine,

Yet different,

Because it’s behind another door.
